Wolverine Alternative Investments: 1.59%.If we can find us someone who will get us there (in a clean, respectable way), I would be glad to lose them to a top P4 team. (And from a purely geographical point of view, we will fit into any of their footprints.) That is the next step. If a coach gets us a couple of playoff appearances, they will likely be poached to a P4 team.but there is also the likelihood that JMU starts getting some serious looks from a P4 conference. We have the belief that with our resources, we can compete every year not just for the Sun Belt East title - but for the G5 Playoff spot. We need a coach who will continue the progression. Program becomes nationally known (in a relatively good way). Leads the move to I-A in the most successful way possible. HCCC comes in and continues the winning tradition. That one year we didn't make it? The year Houston decides to leave for ECU and treats the playoff game vs Colgate as an afterthought. Now conference titles are not good enough.we need to get to the playoff semifinals at a minimum each year - which we do 5 times over the next 6 years.with 3 Frisco appearances. Houston comes in and wins the 2nd NCAA I-AA Championship for the Dukes. Unfortunately, while Withers does bring excitement, he does not bring defense (his supposed specialty). Conference titles become an expectation along with advancement in the playoffs - which we make from Withers' first year until we announce our move to I-A. Withers comes in and brings energy ("juice"). Unfortunately, program starts to stagnate, but the feeling is always there that if we just do "one more thing" and we'll be ready to blow up. (No losing seasons for the program since 2002.) We win our first championship in 2004. It is because of him that we have an expectation of winning. Mickey turned us from an average I-AA team to a constant I-AA force. The last thing I want is to hire a lesser candidate because we're hoping he loves JMU more than he loves money.Ībsolutely! Every coach that we have had for the last 25 years has got us to "the next level". Hire the best candidate, he'll probably leave after a few years and then we hire the best candidate again. Joe Gibbs (showing my age!) was an unheard of assistant coach. Winning cures everything and he’s won everywhere he’s been. need to hit the ground running - and hire someone whos already managed at this level.ĭisagree. Totally different animal coming from d3 and patriot to a CFP hopeful. Cig worked well because he had the Alabama /P5 background and recruiting experience under the Best system in place - that's why our transition was seamless. This - he's never recruited or managed at the FBS level. He's never experienced anything but d3 and patriot league football. But I'm not interested in him for an FBS job. I've heard great things about Chesney as a coach. I dont think he had a prayer at Houston in the Big 12.
